The Roaring Twenties club culture is something that we don't see all that often in the online slot world. There are a few games here and there with this type of concept, but the Book of Bruno slot by Fazi goes all-out with it. The basic idea is that there's a bit of an organized crime slant to the whole concept, but with strong graphics and several large prizes available in different ways, all players will be concerned with is getting some cash.

Game Layout

The layout is pretty much what players would expect out of a title that wants to offer a serious but moderately paced game, and that comes with five reels, three rows and 10 static paylines that cannot be changed. The reason for not being able to change the paylines could partially be because of how the free spins feature works, but we'll get more into that down below. Players can choose from total bet sizes that start at the $0.20 level, though we really wish there was a $0.10 option just to make low stakes players a bit more comfortable. On the upper end, high rollers will be very pleased with the betting choices that go up to the $200 level.

Wild Book of Bruno Symbol

Bruno is implied to be the guy running the club, possibly for some organized crime outfit, and he has a book that's the wild symbol on the reels. It substitutes for every symbol all the time with one exception, which happens during the free spins mode. Interestingly enough, it also has scatter payouts starting at 2,500x for five of a kind. The payout for four of a kind combinations comes down to the 250x level, and you can earn 20x for three of a kind.

Note that if you get wilds all on a payline, then they will not count for the scatter win and will only count towards the Bruno symbol win, which has better payouts and is discussed down below. This is something really important to know because the functionality of this wild scatter is much different in this regard than what you almost always see in other games in the industry as a whole.

Free Spins With a Special Expanding Symbol

If you're able to get at least three of the book symbol anywhere on the reels, then it activates a free spins bonus round. You'll always be given 12 free turns no matter how many symbols you use to trigger the feature, but you can get 12 more by re-triggering. During this feature, you'll be given a randomly chosen symbol that will always expand to cover the whole reel when it appears. This makes it much easier to get multi-line wins, especially if you get several of this symbol on the reels at once. The only caveat is that the wild symbol will not substitute for that expanding symbol during the free spins mode.

Important Wins and Payouts

Bruno is the main character to be concerned with, and he gives you a strong 5,000x win for five of a kind. He's the older man looking to the right on a red background, and he's the symbol that wilds will substitute for if they all land on a payline. From there, another man with a blue/green background looking to the left gets players 2,000x for five-of-a-kind combinations. You can also earn wins of 750x for five of the woman or for five of the man with the hat on with an orange background. Note that all of these character symbols will get you paid for just two of a kind or more on a payline.

Five different card rank symbols show up on the reels in different colors. The font is designed to look perfect for the Roaring Twenties motif, and they each have small suits on them as well that do not affect the payouts. For the purple A or green K, your wins will be 150x for five of a kind. Five of the red Q, blue J or orange 10 will be worth 100x as well. You need at least three of a card rank symbol to get a payout in this game.

Our Thoughts

We like the flat style of graphics that come along with Fazi's Book of Bruno slot. One thing that we might have changed is making the characters a little different from each other, maybe with a more striking background just so that they're easier to keep apart, but that's a small issue. The top payouts are all pretty strong, especially the 5,000x, 2,500x and 2,000x wins, and when you add the free spins mode and wild scatter pays to that number, you get some serious value. This game also has jackpots that you can win on any given spin, but they don't necessarily work exactly like pooled progressives do.
