The Pirates of the Caribbean movies have been extremely popular over the past several years, and iSoftBet took advantage of the general sentiment of these films with their Skulls of Legend video slot. This game has the same sort of graphical style as those particular films without actually using any inspiration for the characters so that it's not exactly a pure "rip off" of the film franchise. If you were a fan of the films, however, you'll definitely love what they have done with this game.
Format of the Slot
This slot uses a 30-payline video slot layout with five reels and three rows. The paylines are static in this game, so you aren't able to change the number that you're playing with. You also cannot change the number of coins on each payline. However, because the available values of the coins don't cover much of a range, they really could have done with giving players more options for adjusting the bet sizes. Coins start off at $0.01, which is normal enough for a spin cost of $0.30 apiece, but the maximum coin size is just $0.20, which puts you at $6 a spin for the most you can wager on this game at one time.
Four Free Spins Bonus Features
The first thing that most players are going to notice when checking out the rules of this game is the simple fact that there are a whooping four different free spins bonus features available. You get three or more of the scattered ship symbol to trigger one of them, and each of them gives players different sets of features. Wild Symbol Features
In many games, the wild symbol pays out special prizes for getting multiple on an activated payline. That's not the case here, even though it does appear on all five reels. Instead, it has a special feature associated with it where there is a counter at the bottom of each of the five reels. Whenever a wild appears on a reel, one of the spots on the counter will fill up. When players get four wilds on the same reel (not all at once, obviously), then that reel will turn completely wild for four spins, which gives players some pretty good chances for extra pays they wouldn't have received otherwise.
High-End Payouts
There are a few pretty big payouts in this game. The scattered ship symbol gives you 2,250x for five of a kind, which is the largest regular win in the game. You can also pick up 1,500x for five of the pirate on the red background. Five of the lady pirate on the green background earns you a cool 625x, and you can earn a 500x win with five of the cannon, which shows up on a purple background.
There is also a symbol with a sword and gun on a yellow/gold background, and that one pays 400x for five of a kind. Finally, there is a blue and yellow parrot on a blue background, and it gives you a solid 300x payout for five.
Low-End Payouts
The payouts at the lower end of the pay table use the card ranks, as is the case for many slots. They have been made to fit the theme graphically, and we can't really complain about how they look at all because they haven't just been thrown in and completely copied from other iSoftBet titles, as certain other software providers are known to do.
The red A is the strongest of the five, and it gives you 150x when you get five on an activated payline. Five green K's will pay 100x, and five of the purple Q is good for a 100x payout as well. Players who get five of the yellow/gold J symbol will earn themselves 75x, and it's 60x for players who nail five of the blue 10.
Our Thoughts
When we look at this game as a whole, what we see is that iSoftBet put together a pretty solid game with a lot of features based on a theme that we have seen before. However, they took it in a completely different direction than most pirate titles in this genre by basing the feel off of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and that makes it stand out in a serious way. We recommend that players take a look at this game, even if they don't feel like playing it for very long (or at all) because it really shows what this software company is capable of.
