Microgaming has come out with some games that have been based on some pretty crazy themes before, but Electric Diva comes dangerously close to taking top honors for a theme you'd never guess. In this game, aliens are invading Earth, and the only thing between the human race and these invaders are female rock stars. This game's graphics are pretty good and convey the hilariously dark premise of the game, but it also has a bit of a metal edge, especially in the overall stylization of the slot itself. This game has a medium volatility and a pretty significant number of ways to win on each spin.

Slot Layout

Normally when you see a 40-payline video slot, it has five reels and four rows for some reason. This game breaks the mold a little because it's a 40-payline title that uses the more typical 5x3 layout instead. It's an interesting departure from that approach, but because it plays the same as other typical slots, it's not something that's going to get much attention from the average player.

You get to choose how many paylines you play with, and you can use coins ranging from $0.01 to $0.25 apiece with the ability to bet between one and five coins per spin. The minimum bet size is $0.40 per turn, and the maximum is $50. This obviously covers every type of player at every reasonable level of stakes out there. What's also worth noting is that, even though you can play with fewer than 40 paylines, it is not advised because it will drop the overall RTP (average payout) of the game.

The pays we describe in this game are based on a bet size of $2.00 per turn. If you play with a different bet size, then the win sizes will multiply proportionately.

Wild Symbols

The Electric Diva symbol is the wild in this game, and it appears on all of the reels. You only need two on an activated payline to get a winning payout, and that gives you a better pay-rate than you would have received otherwise. The top prize is $600 for five of a kind in the wilds, and they substitute for everything but the scatters and bonus symbols.

Guitar Scatter Symbols

The guitar symbols are the scatters in this game. You can earn 100 times your total bet size, $200 in this case, for five of a kind anywhere on the reels. Four earns $40, and three gets you $4. These scatters pay anywhere and do not need to be on any particular payline or on any particular reels to win.

Free Spins Feature

The green, mechanical spider alien is the bonus symbol in this game. Three or more scattered anywhere on the reels will give you a set of free spins. Three starts you off with one free spin and a 1x multiplier, while four gives two free spins with a 2x multiplier, and five starts you with a set of three free spins and a 3x multiplier. However, you can earn more wins during this stage dependent on getting more bonus symbols to the point that you can earn up to a total of 40 free spins with multipliers as high as 8x. This is a pretty substantial amount of value, and it's a great opportunity to run up some major pays.

Top Payouts

The top wins in this game, other than the wilds and scatters, come from the main characters. The evil queen alien pays $100 for five of a kind, and you'll pick up $75 for five of the woman in red who is there to save the day with her guitar. Five of the bat pays you a $50 win when they line up on the same payline, and five of the scorpion earns $37.50.

You can also pick up five of a kind in the red A for $12.50, and five of the orange K earns $10. Five of the yellow Q pays you $7.50, and you'll pick up a win worth $6.25 for five of the green J symbol. Finally, five of the blue 10 symbol earns a win worth $5.00.

Our Thoughts

The bottom line is that Electric Diva definitely steps outside of the box in terms of providing players with a different theme than they've probably ever seen. The gameplay is pretty normal as far as video slots go with a free spins bonus feature, though the way the number of free turns and multipliers are determined is a bit atypical. Overall, this is pretty much a middle of the road release from Microgaming that's characteristic of them focusing on giving players a lot of different games instead of necessarily trying to get too far away from the norm on the gameplay side of things. Regardless, it's a solid game.
